Half-day experience in a spiritual community

Are you curious about our community and you would like to come for a short visit? 
You are very welcome to join us for a half-day experience! With this option you will have the opportunity to share a delicious vegetarian lunch together with the community, where you will get to know about ourselves and the project of Ananda Gaorii or just share a good moment all together. 
After lunch you will get a short guided tour around the facilities and the garden. You are welcome to explore the property around and perhaps take a moment to relax by the lake or under our fruit trees. During this free time you will also be invited to have an introduction to our spiritual practices by one of our resident monks. 
To complete the visit you will attend our evening chanting and meditation together with the community. 

Vegetarian lunch

We follow a yogic diet, which means that we typically eat more sattvic foods.

In the teachings of traditional yoga, foods are classified into three categories: sattva, rajas, and tamas. These are called gunas and represent the three qualities that are present in everything, including food. 

Sattva. This is the highest guna, representing balance and harmony. Some of the qualities of  sattva include “pure, essential, natural, vital, energy-containing, clean, conscious, true, honest, wise”. This is the ideal state. 

Rajas. This guna represents activity and movement. Too much rajas leads to stress, overstimulation, and overexcitement.   

Tamas. This is the base guna. It’s associated with pessimism, weakness, and laziness.

In Sattvic diet we eat mainly ripe, raw, or lightly cooked and freshly prepared. The sattvic diet is high in nutrient-rich plant foods and low in processed and fried foods. Sattvic foods include: 

  • Sprouted whole grains
  • Whole grains
  • Fresh fruit
  • Land and sea vegetables
  • Pure fruit juices
  • Nut and seed milk
  • Cheese
  • Legumes
  • Nuts
  • Seeds
  • Sprouted seeds
  • Honey 
  • Herbal teas 
  • Ghee
Most of our vegetables are grown in our organic garden by our garden team! Specially in summer and autumn there is an abundance of different vegetables and fruits that feed the whole community for several months.  
 
 
 

Foods to avoid on a sattvic diet include: 

  • Salty and sour foods
  • Coffee
  • Alcohol
  • Onions and garlic
  • Frozen food
  • Fast food
  • Microwaved foods
  • Processed foods
  • Meat
  • Fish
  • Eggs
  • Mushrooms

Ananda gaorii

It’s in the main building of Ananda Gaorii where all the events and retreats take place. 
The facilities consist of a big kitchen with a pantry, a living room and dinning hall, a serving area and wash-up area, two bathrooms (one for women and another for men) and a handicap toilet, a library, a meditation hall, three dormitories, 10 individual rooms, and three family rooms. 

It is also in this building where the monks and the residents live, sharing everyday life dividing the work and tasks amongst ourselves. 

Our land is a registered organic farm with 13 hectares. We have three greenhouses, and two main gardens that provide fresh food for the community.
There is also a lake in the property with welcoming surroundings where you can spend a relaxing moment, meditate or read a book.

 

 

COMMUNITY LIVING

We, in Ananda Gaorii, live together in a cooperative way, sharing meals, work, and spiritual practices. We follow a simple lifestyle that emphasizes sustainability, compassion, and personal growth.

We welcome people from all backgrounds and religions who share their values and are interested in living in a community that is focused on spiritual growth and service to others. We offer different types of accommodation for visitors, including camping, dormitories, and private rooms.

Overall, the community living in Ananda Gaorii is a vibrant and supportive group of people who are dedicated to living a meaningful and sustainable life while sharing their knowledge and practices with others.

 

 

SPIRITUAL PRACTICES

One of the most valuable takeaways you will get from this experience is the spiritual practice. Our daily routine includes morning yoga with chanting and meditation twice a day. 

After lunch Dada Krsnasevananda will introduce you to the collective meditation practices. These include kiirtan (a mixture of chanting and dance), a powerful meditation practice which integrates mantra, breath and visualisation and the elegant chants we use to begin and end collective meditation. Guidance on how to maintain mindfulness throughout the day will also be given.

Kiirtan combines the power of mantra and mudra-based dance. Mantra awakens and expands our consciousness while mudra opens the heart, calms the mind and brings a feeling of lightness and joy. Adding music and melody helps keep the mind and body in sync, puts a smile on the face and greatly helps with concentration.

The meditation we practice is based on the principle, “As you think so you become”. We learn how to step away from our small self, our everyday world, and anything which limits us. We then focus on our great self, universal love, and the underlying consciousness that “holds the space” for all that exists. With regular practice, our sense of identity gradually begins to shift from limited to limitless, from agitated to calm and from separate to whole.

 

 

Kiirtan, meditation and Asanas are a powerful combination which continuously enhances our experience of well-being, clarity and the sense of being connected to something greater.

Since it’s a half-day experience, accommodation isn’t included, though if you enjoyed the experience and are interested in staying longer we have the option to stay overnight (check our fees) and prolong your experience with us.

How to get there: 
Buy a ticket from Copenhagen Central Station to Ananda Gaorii, Holbækvej 56, 4560 Vig. Change in Holbæk to bus number 560 to station Herrestrup Terminal (Nykøbingvej), cross the small platform to bus number 566 Nykøbing Sj Station, to Sneglerupbej (Nykøbingvej). Walk 10 minutes to Ananda Gaorii.
